Since no standardised system of vocational training for adult educators exists in Austria, the previously named institutions developed and founded the wba for a variety of reasons: to set overall quality standards in the field of adult education, to develop a recognition model so that adult educators do not have to start from scratch when enrolling in a training programme, to enhance professionalisation of adult educators, and to enable the clients to continue their education at the university level. When their studies end, adult educators in Austria can obtain, for the first time, a diploma widely recognised within the profession.
