Working as a « VAE » (RPL) Counsellor in Belgian French speaking Universities
A kaleidoscopic view of an emerging profession
In the French Community of Belgium, the term Valorisation des acquis de l’expérience (VAE) as it has
been defined by the universities means that former non formal, informal (principally professional) or
even formal learning can be recognised under certain conditions by the juries of universities in order
to admit to a Master’s Degree a student who has not graduated as a bachelor of an equivalent
subject and/or to dispense him/her of part of the curriculum. The point of this case study is to propose a glimpse of “what it means to work as a VAE Counsellor”.
